Abstract

Ships are a clear example of thermal indoor environment with characteristics changing in short intervals of time. In the engine room the conditions used to be extreme as well. In this study, we have carried out a monitoring of air temperature and relative humidity in several locations of a merchant ship that covers the sea lane Las Palmas-Barcelona. Subsequently, it has been determined from those indoor temperature and relative humidity data, the corresponding parameters of thermal comfort (predicted mean vote, PMV; predicted percentage of dissatisfied, PPD and acceptability, Acc) and heat stress of sever exposures in the engine room.
