Green Hydrogen Application Onboard Ship
Main Article Content
Abstract
National strategic visions and international environmental goals are driving a revolutionary transition in the maritime sector toward sustainability. In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN and Oman Vision 2040 and, this study investigates the incorporation of green hydrogen as a clean fuel for ships. Green hydrogen, which is created through electrolysis powered by renewable energy, provides a zero-emission substitute for traditional marine fuels, greatly lowering the carbon footprint of maritime transportation. By encouraging energy transition and the preservation of marine ecosystems, the use of hydrogen-powered vessels advances SDGs 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 14 (Life Below Water) and 13 (Climate Action). Green hydrogen offers a strategic chance to diversify the economy, foster technical innovation, and strengthen the Sultanate's position as a global energy hub within Oman Vision 2040 framework . The technical, financial, and environmental benefits of green hydrogen aboard ships are discussed in this study along with policy suggestions to hasten its uptake in Oman's maritime industry.
