The shipping industry plays a vital role in the global economy and employs an estimated 1.5 million seafarers worldwide. However, working at sea can be challenging and stressful, leading to mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and suicide. This paper provides a financial analysis of investing in seafarer mental health in India and Vietnam, two significant contributors to the seafaring workforce. We discuss the challenges faced by seafarers, the impact of mental health on the industry, and the costs and benefits of investing in seafarer mental health. By analyzing existing mental health programs in India and Vietnam, we highlight the importance of prioritizing seafarer mental health and provide insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders.
