Resumen

Graph theory is a key area in discrete mathematics. It offers a strong framework for maritime universities to model complex systems in maritime transportation, naval architecture, and shipping logistics. By representing entities such as ports, ships, and subsystems as vertices and edges, graph theory allows for the examination of connectivity, centrality, and resilience without the need for empirical data. This paper discusses its integration into maritime curricula, enhancing analytical skills through abstract modeling of networks like global trade routes and ship subsystems. In research, it helps in understanding challenges like network vulnerabilities and resource optimization using properties like cycles and domination. The paper also addresses the limitations of static graph models in dynamic maritime environments, suggesting theoretical extensions such as temporal graphs for changing networks, fuzzy graphs to handle uncertainty, and hypergraphs for complex interactions. These developments improve maritime research and education at institutions like Gdynia and Shanghai Maritime Universities, preparing students and scholars for a globalized industry that faces environmental and technological challenges while promoting sustainable ocean economies.
